My name is Marley Simmons and I am nineteen years old, I am a professional makeup artist, based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. My passion has always been makeup, I have always been into the makeup industry starting at a very young age; I was a girlie girl and loved to get dolled up and use her mother’s makeup. I was always subscribing to fashion magazines and tearing out all the photos that I thought were interesting or the ones that I liked the makeup. I am currently a freelance makeup artist and I am building up my portfolio, my goal is to get signed with an agency and to be able to travel the world and do what I love, makeup.
How did you start in the makeup industry? Did you have an artistic background growing up?Did you always want to become an artist, or was it by chance that you found out you were talented in the arts?
I started getting into the makeup industry when I was old enough to watch YouTube videos and put Halloween makeup on myself. I remember every Easter and Christmas asking my mom to buy me makeup, so that I could practice. It started to really intrigue me, when I started modeling at the age of sixteen. I was around makeup artists and got to pick their brain, and practice on myself, because at most photo shoots, I was the one putting on my makeup. I knew in high school that I wanted to be in the makeup industry. I remember my junior year, looking at schools with makeup courses and it finally hit me that I wanted to be a makeup artist. So I graduated early my senior year and packed up and went to Amsterdam to pursue my career as a makeup artist.
